Why cupid is a baby

Originally a deity of Asia Minor and the adjoining islands in particular Lemnos , Hephaestus had an important place of worship at the Lycian Olympus. It is also rumored that Cupid was born from a silver egg. He is usually depicted as a baby wearing just a diaper and maybe a sash, holding a bow and arrow.

For any and all of these reasons, Cupid is nakkie. So why do we see him in greeting cards and classroom decorations wearing a diaper?
